Hello Fashionistas! In today's post I am going to give you your ultimate guide on choosing an outfit! But not just any outfit... one that you'll love! This post goes very well along with my previous post on This Is Why All Your Outfits Are Boring so if you want any additional tips, make sure to read that post first!
With that being said, let's get right into this outfit guide!

Setting + Weather
Make sure you know what occasion you're dressing for and what the weather will be like! I highly recommend making sure you check the weather app so you are prepared!
When it comes to the setting, there are so many different types of events that you could possibly be going to, so let's narrow the basics down for each one of them!
- Casual (grocery store, quick outing, chilling with family)
- Formal (dinner, ceremony, birthday/holiday)
- Sporty (game/event, hiking, etc)
CASUAL WEAR
When planning an outfit for a casual day don't automatically assume that this means you can't wear skirts or a cute lacy top! Comfortability is something that is personal to you, so if you find skirts comfortable and a piece you can wear on the daily, great! But if you don't, you can always save them for a formal night out.
Casual pieces may include t-shirts, jackets, jeans, shorts, sneakers, boots, minimal accessories and light jewelry.
Here's a great example:
FORMAL WEAR
A formal outfit is one that you wouldn't typically wear and is reserved for special occasions, so in outfits like these you may opt to wear a piece that you normally wouldn't wear, like the skirt we referenced.
Formal pieces may include dresses, skirts, heels, flats, accessories and possibly more extravagant jewelry and makeup.
Here's a good example of a formal outfit:
In my post What To Wear On A Date I have great formal wear outfit types that you can use for inspiration!
SPORT WEAR
And of course if you're going to be playing sports or working out, you're likely going to get hot and sweaty, so it is best to opt for a short-sleeve (or crop top/sports bra) and shorts look!
Now that we've determined how to dress for the setting and the weather, let's get into our next set of tips!
Start with The Basics
Every outfit requires the basics, unless you're going for a super quirky and eccentric look! So, when planning an outfit choose the "requirements" first: Your top, bottoms and shoes. Once you've got those, go from there!
Okay, so you're probably thinking - what does "go from there" mean? When you are trying to go from a boring outfit to one that is fun and interesting, the basics won't cut it - but...good news - You're halfway there!
It really is a simple thing and soon enough you'll be using these tips without even thinking about it!
- Layered Jewelry
Layering your jewelry is a super simple way to make an outfit way better! This outfit literally just consists of a sports bra and likely some matching shorts, but it looks so much better because of the jewelry and the different variations and textures between them all!
- Statement Pieces
The jacket is literally carrying this entire look! Sure, the outfit is perfectly fine without, but adding a pop of color or a quirky piece is always going to be an instant outfit elevator!
-Texture
Adding in texture(s) to your outfit is always going to be a simple way to help give an outfit more depth, so I highly recommend mixing-and-matching certain pieces that you normally would not in order to help create visual interest!
-Shoes
If you're a sneakerhead, you likely have this tip in the bag! Choosing shoes with bold color variations is always a good move, because even when you're wearing neutrals you can have a pop of color! You can also use this tip for formal occasions too! (ex: LBD paired with red heels and a red lip!)
-Hair
Having well-groomed hair is a must, even if you aren't trying an extravagant style! When you have time, make sure to wash and brush your hair to maintain your hygiene!
And if you want to give an outfit a bit more of an "oomph" you can always do a cute style for your hair type! There are plenty of tutorials online if you're in need of a change!
-Makeup
Your makeup style depends entirely on you and of course, the weather and setting! If you're an all-natural girlie, there's no reason to worry about this step (unless you'd like to experiment!) but in a formal setting you may want to go for a more glam style and for example, when you're going hiking with friends, a light to no-makeup look would be the move!
With all of this being said and all the tips I have just given you, it is now time to pull all of these together and create a unique and cute look!
Pairing pieces together is not as intimidating as it may seem! The only differences that you might experience between each time is the setting and how casual or glamorous you want to go!
If this still seems daunting, no worries! I made a little checklist just for YOU! You can download this checklist and print it if you want a cute little guide on your OOTD's each day!
That's all for today's post on How To Choose An Outfit Of The Day! I hope you guys thoroughly enjoyed this post, because I had a great time outlining it and breaking down each and every aspect on creating outfits!
With that, it is now time for our weekly bible verse!
Proverbs 22:4 (NIV): Humility is the fear of the Lord, its wages are riches and honor in life.
A fear of the Lord is a trait in which only a very mature and very wise person can attain, so if you have that, an immediate kudos to you for delving deep into yourself and aligning yourself with your values. Humbleness is a topic that I don't think is touched on often enough! At the end of the day, you can have the most expensive clothing, the most expensive car, the biggest house and the best partner...
But you know what? God couldn't care less about any of that! God sees our character, not our riches!
When you set out to flaunt worldly things such as how much money you have and put others down, just know that that is far from Holy and that doing this sets you apart from God.
God wants us to have a pure heart and one that only sets out to love others! Matthew 5:8 puts this beautifully - "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God"
Today I challenge you to strive to have a pure heart, and instead of flaunting what you have or choosing to put others down, deny yourself and lift them up instead, for denying our sinful ways is one of the best steps you can take to honor our Father 💜
A quick disclaimer: No, it is not bad to have nice things - we all want them, and all strive to elevate our lives for ourselves and our families by attaining them, but it becomes bad when we only set our sights on those things and put them above God in the process.
I have another great verse on this in my back pocket that really confirms this point:
Matthew 16:26 (NIV): What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?
This is a HEAVYYYYY verse right here and I really want you guys to reflect on this one yourself without my input! Feel free to comment your thoughts as well!

Hey Toni! I really enjoyed reading your blog post; I definitely find it great to have an OOTD that I LOVE! It gives me a boost of confidence to seize the day! Moreover, I love adding statement pieces to my fits as well as a pop of color!
ReplyDeleteI also do find it important to wear certain things on certain occasions as well as checking the weather (I check it on the daily lol)!
Lastly, I love the verse of the day; HUMILITY is the key! Yes, it is okay to own things in this world, the issue is when we CONFORM into the things of this world. It also reminds me of a verse in Matthew 23:12 “Those who lift themselves up will be made humble, those who make themselves humble will be lifted up”. This scripture is a reminder for when Chaniya wants to puff up and unconsciously forget that God runs the show in my life (& oh how he reminds me!) But, when I humble myself, God will put me in situations that I can never put myself in!🙌🏽
The verse you shared at the end is very deep. Here’s my take on it: If I truly had everything I wanted on this earth and was comfortable, why would I want to go to heaven. Things on earth must be shaken for us to fulfill our purpose to be with our Lord! Because at the end of the day, everyone has to die; no matter how rich you are, everyone has a death date. So why live with the only intention to get rich and be the “status quo” when the day we pass away, it no longer matters. That’s why we strive to be like Christ daily so that we KNOW that our soul belongs to Christ! 🙏🏽
I am left speechless by your comment and I truly don't know how to respond to it...beautifully said! I love the verse you shared as it relates to the verses I placed in this post beautifully!
DeleteI wholeheartedly agree that in the end, humbleness wins and indeed those who are will be lifted up in God's eyes! 🙌
I agree on that if the heart truly had everything it desired, we'd see no need to honor God as we would already have "everything" so I think that it is important for God to humble us every now and again and make us face trials and tribulations to grow and learn as there is oh so much to learn in this life!!!
Thank you for your wonderful response, I am definitely going to be reflecting on it today :)
