Hello Fashionistas! In today's post, I'm going to provide you with some simple styling tips to instantly elevate any outfit. If you often wear the same clothes, especially to school or work, these tips will come in handy. They can be applied every day to turn a tired outfit into a visually stunning one! Before we get into today's post, let's address the elephant in the room - I haven't posted in a while, ahhh! For that, I apologize! Life has been really hectic and on top of that, inspiration has been lacking on my end, but as Summer is officially coming to a start, I'm going to work on being more consistent once again!
With that, let's get into these styling tips!
Disclaimer: All pictures used are not my own and I hold no rights to them whatsoever.
1. Contrasting Texture
As you can see by this picture, this outfit looks pretty boring! There's a plain white tee and I think it's safe to assume the girl in the picture is likely just wearing a plain pair of jeans! But the hat is really what's adding so much to this outfit! It features a contrasting texture with the denim AND it adds a much-needed pop of color to the outfit.
Although this tip was on adding a contrasting texture, from this one photo there is a lot that can be learned, such as:
- Adding texture
- Adding pops of color
- Adding accessories (necklace + bag)
If you do these 3 simple things, you're on your way to making an outfit that stands out from the crowd!
2. SHAPE
This outfit is fairly simple, you've got the plain tank, some pants, and some sunglasses - nothing special! But what's really elevating the look is the pants! Not only are parachute pants trendy, but this look in particular, features them in a way that they really accentuate the outfit positively. They contrast the form-fitting top by having the lower half of the outfit loose. This makes the look so much more interesting. Imagine if this look was just a tank and some skinny jeans. Notice the difference?
3. BELTS
First of all...can we just take a moment of silence to appreciate this look?
She is the moment.
Anyways, let's talk about this belt! Although this is more of a business-casual, fancy night out with friends look, adding a belt was so crucial to making this outfit even better! The outfit was pretty straightforward no tight-baggy moment, kinda flat - but the belt elevated it, not only by being an added accessory but by being another element to add to the shape of this look!
4. Tuck in your shirt!
Sure, this outfit incorporates a belt which is great and adds visual interest like noted in the last tip, but the tucked-in shirt is giving this outfit more than what it would've without!
If the shirt wasn't tucked in and there was no belt, it'd look pretty plain. But with the shirt tucked in it makes the outfit look more intentional! I also think that tucking in a normally casual graphic tee is a great way to add a formal effect to it to make it a bit less on the streetwear side.
If you were really looking to elevate this outfit here's what I'd do:
- Trade the heels for some black leather boots
- Add a thicker black belt
- Put the hair in a claw clip
- Add a black leather jacket
Can you imagine that? It literally takes your plain lazy-day bummy graphic tee and jeans look to one that is fashionable and trendy!
5. Coordinating Colors
I am obsessed with this shade of pink! Buttt, that's not the point - imagine this outfit without the hat, jacket and bag. Yep, today we're using a lot of imagination!
See what I did there?
This outfit would be a plain monochrome black outfit, but having the coordinating pops of color really helps to elevate it and make it seem as though lots of effort was put into it, when you really just threw on a jacket, put on a hat and utilized a purse!
That's all for today's post on elevating boring outfits! With that, let's get into our weekly bible verse!
Psalms 119:11 (NIV): I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.
Today's verse comes from the verse of the day! When I read it I immediately knew that it was a verse to share with you all. Here in Psalms, a general breakdown of this verse is basically "With your word in my heart, it repels me from sin"
This is just how I view this verse, but everyone can view it differently! That's just what I feel is trying to be communicated, so if we go off of that - there's a lesson! With God's word in our hearts, it is harder for the devil to lead us into sin, which means that with God on our minds we have better judgment!
As they say, "The Lord's protection leads us to redirection"
I pray that all of you reading this keep God's word in your hearts today so that you are able to flee from sin and temptation! 💜
