A Girl's Guide To Elegance In Style

Hello Fashionistas!
Today's post is all about elegance. Elegance is such an intimidating and powerful word! It screams feminine energy and respect all at once, and that is why I admire it so much!

When you aspire to be an elegant woman, you want to be seen as one who is worthy of respect (because you are) and you want to have a confident mysterious aura. An elegant woman is one who shows but doesn't tell and always has her life together! She maintains good grades, is steadily climbing up the ladder in the workplace, and most importantly she knows what she is worth!

Now, before we dive into how to have an elegant (or rather, old money style) I want to clarify one thing: Just because you choose not to dress a certain way, it doesn't mean that you don't portray all of these qualities listed above! A woman who chooses to dress in streetwear style is just as worthy of respect as one who dresses "elegantly". All of us are special and unique and that is what makes us valuable!

With that being said, let's get into today's post on elegance in style!

Disclaimer: All pictures used are not my own and I hold no rights to them whatsoever.

1. Monochromatic Looks

Monochromatic/solid color looks always scream elegance and this is because if you have a matching outfit people naturally correlate that with you having it all together because you took the time to pair 2 coordinating pieces. Monochromatic looks are timeless and are perfect for when trying to convey elegance because they can be dressed up or down!

I also want to note that your monochromatic looks don't need to be as fancy as this! Even pairing a solid color top with matching joggers could give a more elegant at-home look for when you're just relaxing!

2. Simplicity

Another great thing to add on about this style is that once you have the basics, you're good to go! You will never see an elegant outfit that is super flashy/brand-filled. Why? It's basically supposed to give off "quiet" and not "loud" wealth. Most of the richest people you see today (besides rappers and entertainers) hardly ever are seen with logos everywhere, but with how they present themselves and how their clothing always seems to be such great quality, you still respect and admire them.

This is great because you are able to invest in high-quality pieces rather than what is currently trending! Simple staple items would include: shirts, pants, skirts, cardigans, purses, heels and minimal (yet classy) jewelry.

3. Minimal Patterns

If you do decide to have a pattern featured in your look, try not to go overboard. While many other styles allow you to have a bit more fun, an elegant look is all about being more modest and reserved.

4. Accessorize

Accessories are such a nice way to spice up an elegant look. But, here are a few things that you should note before accessorizing an elegant outfit:

  • Less is more.
  • Have complementary pieces.
  • Invest in high-quality items! People can tell real from fake! Invest in a nice high-quality purse that you can wear every day and have it as a staple in your wardrobe! Same goes for jewelry.

5. Modest Is Hottest

Hardly ever will you see an elegant look that features cropped or short components and that is why I love this style so much! Don't get me wrong, wear what you please - but something about a woman wearing a long form-fitting (non-provocative) dress screams power and feminine energy and I am here for it!

5. Be Well Groomed.

An elegant woman is one who prioritizes herself. She takes time to relax in a soothing bath, she makes sure that her hair is washed and styled and she always makes sure her nails are clean and in a simple style if she chooses to paint or get them done.

6. Have Tailored/Well-Fitting Clothing

Having clothes that fit your body in the way they are supposed to is a no-brainer when it comes to having a respectable and elegant style. Nothing is ever way too baggy or way too tight. Everything fits properly and how it should.

Another thing to note about this is that if you've read my post 10 Style Mistakes To Avoid, you'd notice that an elegant woman is one who never is seen making common mistakes like having clothing that is not properly fitted. So, if you are interested in this style, I highly recommend reading this post because these are great things to make sure you are avoiding when dressing.

7. Minimal Makeup

An elegant woman never has to do too much when it comes to makeup (except for maybe a spicy red lip on a date night or for an event). She keeps it simple and is usually seen going for a bare face or a "no makeup-makeup look".

*EXTRAS*

Although this post is all about elegance in style, here are a couple of extra things I decided to sprinkle in, because these are all great things that an elegant woman can do!

8. Have Good Posture

Good posture is not only great for your health, it's also an amazing way to portray confidence! If you feel yourself slouching (especially in public), try to correct it!

9. Smelling Good

Now I'm not saying you need to have the fancy Prada perfume like pictured, but investing in a nice not too overbearing signature scent is always lovely! People will begin to recognize it and correlate that scent with you whenever you are around!

10. Seeking Knowledge

An elegant woman seeks knowledge. You will hardly ever see "Gods without their Goddesses" as Doja Cat put it, and what I take from that verse is that as a woman she is by her man's side calm, cool, collected and calculated. It may appear that she is letting her man lead, but at the same time she is making moves and is the powerhouse behind the scenes making sure that everything is running smoothly. An elegant woman is one who is mysterious (never oversharing unless with people she trusts) and is always drinking knowledge like medicine! So ladies, keep reading!

That's all for today's post on A Girl's Guide To Elegance In Style. I hope you guys enjoyed this post because I had SO much fun writing it!!

With that being said, let's hop into our weekly bible verse!

Proverbs 31: 25 (NIV): She is clothed with strength and dignity.

I chose this verse because I felt as though it went so well with today's post topic!! I'm getting a lot of female empowerment vibes from this post, so you know that your girl had to hit up Proverbs!

Here God is telling us as women to be strong and to maintain our dignity. There is so much in the world and in media today that will cut us down and de-value us, but It's up to us to let that all go in one ear and out the other! We are virtuous women of God who know our worth! And if you don't already, do some self-seeking because nobody should ever have the power to make you feel less than what God already says you are! He deemed you as "good". We are literally the only beings on earth that have The Holy Spirit within us. How cool is that?

So my dear fashionistas, hold this verse close to your heart this week and clothe yourself with strength and dignity.

Do you like the elegant style?
