How To Elevate Your Appearance

★ Hello Fashionistas! Today's blog post is all about elevating your appearance! When push comes to shove, no matter how great our outfit is, if we don't feel pretty, all that hard work goes to waste!

Regardless, each of us is naturally beautiful and spectacular in our own ways, and this post is just an extra nudge to self-care, and provides a few things you can do to make your natural physical features shine more than they already do!

I've compiled all of my best tips in this post, and I know that you'll find some of them pretty useful! So with that being said, let's get into today's post!

1. Showering & Proper Hygiene

Never underestimate the power of a shower! Showering and maintaining healthy hygiene is the most crucial step you can take when elevating your physical appearance.

If you're feeling low, or in a slump, I highly recommend hopping in the shower and releasing some of the stress you've been holding!

If you truly want to have a beneficial and relaxing shower routine, here are some common products that you can use to feel and smell better all at once:
  • Shower Gel
  • Bath bombs
  • Exfoliating Scrubs
  • Shampoo & Conditioners
  • (optional) Perfume/Fragrances
And if you feel comfortable doing so, shaving is also a great step you can take to feel more confident in your skin!

2. Skincare

Investing in skincare essentials is an amazing way to elevate your appearance. Your skin will start to glow, and if using the right products, you should slowly start to see acne fade and dark spots correct themselves. But get this, you don't need to use the most expensive items out there! I know it is tempting to jump on any TikTok skincare trend you see, but even drugstore products can be effective if you are doing your proper research!

Everyone's skin is different, and if you are experiencing an extreme amount of skin problems, I highly recommend going to a dermatologist and having an examination done, that way they can recommend you the right products that are tailored to your skin!

I personally have a very minimal skincare routine, only consisting of 3 drugstore products, but I have been hearing great things from Rhode, Fenty Beauty, and Florence by Mills so if you are looking for some great and reasonably priced items, those might be some good celebrity brands to shop!

Regardless of where you shop, here's a small list of products that every skincare routine should consist of:
  • A gentle face cleanser
  • A moisturizer
  • Sunscreen
  • (optional) Gua Sha & Jade Roller

3. Clean Teeth

You look SO much better when you smile! And to quote Marilyn Monroe, "A smile is the best makeup any girl can wear."

Maintaining good dental hygiene is a great practice not only for the present, but in the long-run too! Make sure at the very least you are brushing your teeth in the morning and at night, as well as flossing! Once you get good at maintaining that routine, try brushing and flossing after every meal! Dentists recommend this more so than just two times a day!

On top of routinely cleaning those pearly whites, you also need to watch what you consume! So many different foods and drinks affect our teeth negatively, so here are a couple of things you should look out for:
  • Sour Candies
  • Bread
  • Alcohol
  • Carbonated Drinks
  • Ice
  • Citrus
  • Potato Chips
  • Dried Fruits
To read more about how these foods and beverages affect your teeth, click here.

By providing you with this information, I am not saying that you need to swear off of these foods completely, but instead, you should be more particular with how often you consume them, and if possible, brushing and flossing after eating/drinking them.

4. Lips

Our lips are one of the most prominent features in our faces! Making sure that they aren't chapped, but instead moisturized and glossy is a great practice you can easily incorporate into your everyday routine!

To achieve healthy-looking (and feeling) lips, you can use a multitude of products:
  • Vaseline
  • Lip Scrubs
  • Lip Oils
  • Chapstick
  • Lipliner + Lipgloss
  • Lipstick

5. Taking Care of Your Brows

Making sure your eyebrows are neat and well-groomed is such a simple, yet effective way to look more put together! I personally don't get my brows done, nor do I shave them, but if you are comfortable doing so go right ahead!

A great alternative to shaving them is simply using brow gel (or Vaseline on a spoolie) to neatly shape your eyebrows and have them stay in place all day!

6. Haircare

Maintaining healthy and clean hair is very important to your overall look, no matter your hair texture or length! Make sure you have a wash schedule and a set amount of products that you use when washing and styling your hair.

Investing in good-quality shampoos and conditioners, moisturizers and oils, and natural hair masks and gels makes such a difference!

Additionally, make sure you have a good heat-protectant product if you straighten or curl your hair often! Heat can do quite a bit of damage, so having some sort of barrier is never a bad idea!

7. Makeup

Whether or not you decide to wear makeup is up to you, but if you do, having a simple everyday routine is a great way to elevate your appearance and have you looking refreshed and glowy each day!

A simple routine that I see most teenagers go for is...
  • Brow Gel
  • Mascara
  • Concealer
  • Highlighter
  • Blush
  • Lipgloss/Lip Oil
Each and every one of these products is great for a natural look, and a really good foundation for any style of makeup that you are going for!

8. Well Manicured Nails

Having clean and presentable nails is such a respectable practice that you can add to elevate your overall appearance. You don't even need to do too much! Nor do you need to always have painted or acrylic nails. Simply using a nail growth serum or a clear coat of gloss is an easy way you can achieve clean and glossy-looking nails.

9. Posture

Having good posture makes you more visually appealing, than if you were just slouching. Make sure to keep your head high, and back straight, not only for good physical health, but to radiate confidence as well.

10. Working Out

Don't underestimate the power of having an effective workout routine. I've been working out pretty consistently for the past couple of months, and I can physically feel and see a difference in my body when I do!

And guess what, I can also feel and see a difference when I don't. Staying consistent with working out will make you stronger, and less likely to get tired with low-impact workouts, and you will notice yourself getting more toned by the day!

Focus on a specific part of your body and get to work! No matter if you are slim or thick, working out is a great practice for good physical health, and we should all be working out 30 minutes daily, 5 times per week according to health.com

11. Get in Tune with YOU

Spiritually aligning yourself with your values, beliefs, and interests is crucial to elevating your appearance. I am firm in my belief that when you work on yourself internally, it radiates from within!

Here are some simple practices that you can take to align with yourself:
  • Spending time in nature
  • Learning to trust and love yourself
  • Healing from past traumas through self-observation or therapy
  • Establishing boundaries in your relationships and friendships
  • Practicing mindful breathing exercises
  • Drinking more water
  • Affirming yourself positively
  • Isolating yourself to evaluate what you want and don't want out of life
  • Reading the Bible
  • Participating in daily prayer
  • Finding joy in the small things
  • Following your passion
When aligning yourself with who you were made to be, your inner confidence will radiate to others around you, and people will be able to see a secure, beautiful woman who knows her worth! Every woman should take these steps to become her higher self and to become the woman that God made her to be, for we are fearfully and wonderfully made! And it is about time we all start acting as such!

In addition to this statement, we need to get real and talk about freeing ourselves from our negative attributes. You see, even the most breathtaking woman in the world can be seen as ugly if she has a bad attitude. We all know someone like her, right? An absolute beauty... yet... she gossips, she lies, she plots to steal your boyfriend, she picks on other girls...you get the gist. Acting like that is far from cute and we shouldn't portray any of those qualities!

If you find yourself doing any of these things on the daily, it is time to re-evaluate, ask God to reposture your heart (which should be a daily practice in prayer) and to be more mindful in the ways that you act and speak.

What you should not be doing:
  • Being rude or standoffish for no reason
  • Picking on other people, or pointing out their insecurities
  • Gossiping about matters or people that do not concern you
  • Lying
  • Being jealous or envious of other people's lives, appearances, or material goods
These are just to name a few! By pointing these out, in no way am I saying that I am a saint, for I fall too, but this is just a friendly nudge to start becoming a better you, by evaluating any of your bad habits!

That is all I have for you in today's post! I sincerely hope that you enjoyed this post and that you found it useful!

With that being said, it is now time for our weekly bible verse!

Proverbs 31:30 (NIV): "Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised."

You see, all of that stuff we just talked about, in regards to elevating your appearance, means nothing later on in life if you do not have a heart that yearns for the Lord! And that's just the reality of it.

Of course, we all want to look presentable, and that is crucial to being respected in this world, but we should also recognize the fact that we are not OF this world, but rather placed IN it, and we have a much higher calling ABOVE it.

Don't place too much stock trying to achieve an unattainable ever-changing beauty standard. You are beautiful as you are, and God sees, loves and cares for you as is!

If that isn't convincing enough, let's take a look at 1 Samuel 16:7...

"But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”

I think that verse tells you all that you need to know, so I'm going to end off this post right here, and let you reflect on these words!
