How To Dress For Your Skin Tone

Hello Fashionistas! In today's blog post I'm going to be sharing with you how you can dress for your skin tone! With all of us being diverse and having so many different shades of skin tones, sometimes certain colors can make us look "washed out" or overall, not our best! But no worries there, because I'm going to give you my top tips to find the best colors that suit you!

Also, in addition to this I just wanted to thank you all for being such a supportive and loving community! I'm looking forward to more growth this year, and I thank you all for supporting and sharing the blog - it means the world!

With that, let's get into today's post!

The first thing you need to do before figuring out how to dress for your skin tone, is actually knowing your undertone! You can have either a cool or warm undertone.

But, really quickly I need to debunk a myth! A lot of people believe that if you have a darker skin tone that means you can't have a cool undertone, but that actually isn't true!

Here's how you determine if you have a cool undertone:
  • When you look in the mirror does your skin have a blue-ish hue?
  • Do you get sunburnt easily?
  • Are your veins visibly very blue?
If so, you have a cool undertone!

Here's how you determine if you have a warm undertone:
  • Do you get tanned? Does your skin change to an entire new tone in the Summer?
  • Does your skin have a yellow hue when you look in the mirror?
If you've answered yes to both of these questions, you have a warm undertone!

Now that we know the classifications of cool and warm undertones, its time to get into the tips!

  • If you don't take anything else from this post, make sure you remember this: Contrasting with your skin tone will give you some much needed color. (Ex: A navy color would look really good on a cool undertone because it contrasts with the softness in the blue hue that is naturally on their skin.)
  • You should avoid colors that blend into your skin tone, so to lead off of the cool undertone example, a person with the a cool undertone should not wear a light blue pastel shirt because it would completely absorb with the color of their skin.
  • People with warm undertones should go with lighter colors in their clothing, because that will help bring some brightness to their complexion.

Lastly, I just want to note this one thing: If you feel comfortable and confident in your clothing, don't feel like you have to pay too much attention to figuring out if it matches your skin tone! This is just for people who are genuinely curious!

What undertone do you have?
