Hello Fashionistas! Today's post is all about Dark Academia fashion!
Dark Academia is mysterious, studious and all about neutral and dark tones! Dark Academia is a certain style that I can just imagine someone wearing to a coffee shop, in the Fall on a really scenic trail, or just lounging on the couch listening to Evermore by Taylor Swift (your welcome TS fans).
So, if you want to dress in this aesthetic, keep on reading because I'm going to be sharing 5 of my best tips that you can use to dress in the Dark Academia style!
Disclaimer: All pictures used are not my own and I hold no rights to them whatsoever.
Along with these 5 tips, I wanted to share some staple pieces that any Dark Academia lover should have in their closets! So here they are:
- Checkered pants and/or skirts
- A scarf (preferably neutral so you can style it with a variety of outfits)
- A nice brown blazer or coat
- Simple leather shoes
- Brown Mary Janes (or something similar)
- A black or brown leather bag
- Long socks (knee-high for a skirt)
- Sweater Vests
- Turtlenecks in a variety of colors (to pair with sweater vests)
- Bow Scrunchies
- Berets
- And..if you wear glasses, these are a plus because they add on to the aesthetic!
So, now that we know the Dark Academia staple pieces, let's get into the tips!
1. Thrift To Find Vintage Pieces
If you already love thrifting, then this will be no problem for you! Dark Academia features pieces that all are either older pieces or were just made to look older! So, if you want a leather bag for example to hold your school books - thrift shops would be a great place to check out! Also, Etsy has a lot of clothing and accessories based around different aesthetics, but something that you should note is that Etsy is always going to be more expensive than your local thrift store.
2. Pair Loose-Fitting Pants With Long Coats
The pants don't have to be baggy or anything, but make sure they have a nice comfortable fit, perfect for studying in the library! Pairing them with a nice color-coordinating jacket will really help give your outfit some interest because there is so many contrasting textures!
3. Layer
Layering a simple turtleneck with a blouse or sweater, once again creates a variety of textures and is a simple way to make your outfit look more put together and stylish!
4. Don't Be Afraid To Add Earth Tones
Bringing earth tones into this style is such a great way to add in some color while still keeping the aesthetic! Also, if you love plants and want to give off "studious plant mom" this is a great way to do so!
5. Opt For A Long Flowy Dress
If you want to go the feminine route, having a dress that is long and flowy really just...hits different. Not only are these dresses modest, I can really envision a girl walking along in her college campus with books in hand ready to finish her law degree. In conclusion to that, I feel like the modesty of a longer dress fits much better in this aesthetic than a short one would.
6. Utilize Accessories
You can have a plain white top and some black pants and still scream Dark Academia. Adding on a brown leather belt, a leather satchel (thrifted of course), some glasses, your favorite book, a nice neutral scrunchie or even a nice vintage necklace can help you show off your aesthetic, so don't think that even on the "boring" days, you can't dress! It just takes a little bit of effort!
Hmm, I believe I found me a new style…this is such an aesthetic that I think that may fit me✨
