Hey everyone! In honor of the Fall season, I decided to do another post on Fall fashion, and what do we all wear almost everyday in Fall? Sweaters of course! I touched a bit on these in my last post but I decided that sweaters deserved an entire post to themselves, so let's get into the tips!
1. Layers. My most recent post mentioned this and as well as a couple of other posts I have on the blog! When in cold weather layering is helpful for staying warm, but it can also make a great fashion statement as well! Layering flannels and hoodies over your sweaters is something that you can easily do to give visual interest to an outfit!
2. Go monochrome! If you have a sweater that has the same color of pants you own, why not pair them together? Monochrome looks are never out of style and they can give a minimalistic vibe to an outfit!
3. Make it fancy! Just because you're trying to stay warm in a cozy sweater, it doesn't mean your outfit can't be on point! Here are a couple of things you can add to an outfit to easily elevate it:
- Sunglasses - sunglasses can make an outfit look trendy and sophisticated without any effort at all, so wear them as often as you can!
- Jewelry - A simple pair of hoops, a necklace, or a cute watch can make an outfit look good enough to wear at school or the office, so use jewelry whenever you feel like an outfit is lacking!
- Wear it over a dress! If you want an easy way to automatically make a sweater look fancier, adding a dress underneath is the way to go! It gives a subtle layer and gives you the femininity aspect with the skirt underneath, while keeping you safe from the cold at the same time!
Getting off the fanciness factor, another great way you can style a sweater is by following what I like to call the "baggy-skinny, skinny-baggy" rule. Sounds kinda strange, but It's the only way I could think of to describe it! But basically, this is what it means:
- If you're wearing a baggy top layer (a sweater perhaps) wear a skinny bottom layer. This could be a pencil skirt or skinny jeans!
- If you're wearing a skinny top layer (i.e. a tight fitting top) wear a baggy bottom layer.
This rule helps an outfit not look too baggy or too tight and helps give visual interest!
4. Add pops of color. Don't be afraid to stand out a little bit with color! Adding some color whether in your sweater, in jewelry or on your pants/skirt will take an outfit from boring to fabulous, so experiment a little!
5. Scarves. Not only are they good for keeping your neck warm, they are also great for making fashion statement! Simply tying one around your neck or draping it over your shoulders will make a sweater look a whole lot more interesting! And, if you want to take it a little further - just choose a scarf with a contrasting color or pattern!
6. Add a chunky belt. Chunky belts are SO SO SO CUTE! Like, I cannot get enough of them! These are great especially if you have a oversized long sweater. Why? The belt helps section off your waist so you are able to still have a feminine aspect while rocking an oversized look.
7. Tuck it in! To go along with the purpose of #6, tucking in a sweater helps define your waistline!
8. Play with proportions. Have a baggy sweater? Style it with a mini-purse and tiny rim shades! This will make you look fashionable and very stylish!
