A Girl's Guide to Business Casual

Hey everyone
! Today I'm doing a post all about business casual (requested by Kait)!

Are you a young professional who wants the boss babe look without it being totally uptight? Then business casual may be the look for you!

While business casual does feature items like blazers, slacks, purses, jewelry, etc. It is more laid back than the average business looks. With business casual you can feature brighter colors (rather than the average neutrals), patterns and just have more fun with it all together!

The business casual look features many different items such as...

  • Blazers
  • Blouses
  • Skirts
  • Dresses
  • Slacks
  • Flats/Heels
With this look there is a lot of different options! One thing that I like about this look is that you don't always have to go the girly-girl route with a skirt or dress. You can easily pull off a look with a blazer and some pants, which I know is great for some of you out there who prefer the toned down looks!

Here is something that I'd also like to note: A business casual look is in no way restricted to those items listed! Those are just the most common! You can even make a business casual look with a T-Shirt and ripped jeans if you pair it with the right items, so don't think that if you don't have any of those items that you can't pull off this look!

Alright, so now that you know what you can wear  with a business casual look, you need to know how to style it! Which I have to admit is my favorite part!

1. Make a neutral based outfit (ex: white blouse, beige slacks) and add pops of color! This could be adding some leopard print flats or even adding bright red lipstick! You don't have to fit in a certain box in order to pull of this style!

2. Try not to get a loose fit or a tight fit. Okay, you're probably confused by this statement, but basically what I mean is don't wear the baggiest pants you can find or the tightest shirt either. Neither of those will get you the business casual look. Try to find pieces that fit your body shape without being too tight or too lose.

3. Accessorize! You can pair your ensembles with necklaces, bracelets, earrings, scarves, bags, etc! Have fun with it!

4. Use patterns. This is not a necessity, but if you are trying to make your whole business look not seem over uptight then patterns are the way to go! They add some visual interest to an outfit and make it a little more fun. Just don't go crazy with them - patterns are great in moderation.

5. No spaghetti straps! Any shirt that you wear should have sleeves that at least go to your shoulders. The business look is more modest than average attire.

6. Iron your clothes! Wrinkles in clothing do not  get that respectable look that the business casual look offers, so iron your clothes when you see a need for it.

7. No crop-tops! I hope you'd think that would be a no-brainer, but if you haven't please don't! Why? Refer back to #5.

8. If you are going to wear heels try making them average size. For the business casual look you don't need stilettos!

9. Gold accents are always appreciated. Gold, gold, gold...how can you go wrong with it? Gold is great for making a statement in your outfits and adds a little bit of a luxurious vibe to an outfit.

10. Do your hair! Whether It's a slicked-back bun or a fishtail braid going down your back make sure your hair looks presentable and clean. If you do want to add hair accessories I recommend modest barrettes (not too distracting).
