Okay, so...first things first! You need to know what a capsule wardrobe is!
Capsule Wardrobe definition (courtesy of Wikipedia): A term used in American publications as early as the 1940s to denote a small selection of garments designed to be worn together which harmonized in color and line.
In simplified terms, a capsule wardrobe is a wardrobe in which there are a minimal amount of clothes which can be mixed and matched over time.
Now that we know what a capsule wardrobe is, we need to learn how we can apply the idea of using a capsule wardrobe in our own lives so I'm going to be giving you some tips and tricks on how to do this!
The first step you need to do is determine a base color (black, white, navy, brown...). The base color of your capsule wardrobe is very important because since you have to mix-and-match, your clothes need to be coordinating.
The second step is to grab a couple of the basics that fit your base color. Make sure you at least have a couple shirts, jeans, skirts, shoes, etc. Just make sure you don't overdo it because the whole point of a capsule wardrobe is to be sustainable and cut the clutter.
The third step is to pick out some accent colors. Make sure that these colors are colors you actually like and would want to wear - because if not the whole capsule wardrobe is pointless! These colors are meant to pair with your base colors and add an extra touch.
The fourth step is to pick a few pieces that have patterns and designs. These will add some more flair to your capsule wardrobe.
The fifth step is to pair some accessories with the clothes that you picked out. These should be able to pair with all of your outfits in your capsule wardrobe, so keep that in mind.
